The Bitcoin creator, Satoshi Nakamoto’s real identity has been questionable in the crypto industry since Bitcoin launched. An upcoming HBO documentary has sparked excitement as it promises to reveal new details about the identity of Bitcoin’s mysterious creator, Satoshi Nakamoto.
The film, titled “Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery,” aims to explore the ongoing debate about who invented Bitcoin, whether it was a solo effort or a collaborative project, and how the invention has shaped the global economy.

A trailer released on Thursday highlights interviews with Adam Back, a British cryptographer and cypherpunk. Back was among the first to receive emails from Satoshi Nakamoto back in 2009. Despite being considered a potential candidate for Satoshi’s identity, Back has repeatedly denied being the creator of Bitcoin. A batch of emails between him and Satoshi, made public in February, seems to support his claim.
On X, long-time Bitcoin enthusiasts have been speculating about who the documentary will claim as Satoshi. Since Nakamoto disappeared from the public eye in 2011, his true identity has remained a mystery.
Alex Thorn, head of research at Galaxy, shared that he had heard the film suggests Len Sassaman as a potential Satoshi. Sassaman, an American cryptographer, was active in the cypherpunk community, where Bitcoin was first introduced. He passed away in July 2011 and has been considered a possible candidate for Nakamoto for years.
Much of the online speculation centers on whether the documentary will name someone who is still alive as Satoshi. Nakamoto’s Bitcoin wallets hold around 1.1 million BTC, valued at nearly $67 billion at the time of writing. If the documentary reveals that Satoshi is alive and still has access to these funds, it could create panic in the Bitcoin market due to the sheer volume of BTC controlled by one individual.
