Not Len Sassaman, This Is The Profile of ‘Peter Todd’ Believed as Satoshi

A new documentary “Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery” on HBO explores the mystery behind Bitcoin’s creator, Satoshi Nakamoto was launched on October 8. Before the official documentary launch, plenty of the crypto community presume the real Satoshi is Len Sassaman, a cryptographer from America.

Since Bitcoin was launched in January 2009, there has been much speculation about Nakamoto’s identity, with some believing it could be an individual or a group. Bitcoin has now become mainstream, with billions of dollars invested in exchange-traded funds (ETFs) that hold the cryptocurrency.

Over the years, many have been suggested as Nakamoto. In 2014, Newsweek mistakenly identified physicist Dorian Nakamoto as the creator, which he denied. Australian Craig Wright also claimed to be Nakamoto, but a British court ruled that he wasn’t.

Despite that, HBO revealed a different name, suggesting that Canadian software developer Peter Todd might be behind the pseudonym. This film shares interviews with key figures in Bitcoin’s early days, such as Adam Back, Roger Ver, Samson Mow, and Peter Todd.

The documentary, directed by Cullen Hoback, uses circumstantial evidence to claim that Peter Todd could be Nakamoto. Hoback points to posts from an early Bitcoin forum to support this theory. However, when Todd was asked about it, he dismissed the idea as “ludicrous” and laughed it off, even saying, “I am Satoshi Nakamoto” as a joke.

Who is Peter Todd?

Peter Todd, who is based in Toronto, is a cryptography consultant listed on GitHub. A LinkedIn profile under his name also describes him as the “Chief Naysayer” at Bitcoin security company Coinkite, as well as the chief scientist for Dark Wallet and Mastercoin.

Todd holds a bachelor’s degree in integrated media from OCAD University, which he obtained in 2011. Although the Bitcoin whitepaper was published in 2008 and the network went live in 2009, Todd has been considered a potential Nakamoto for many years.

Despite Nakamoto’s absence since 2011, his presence is still felt in the cryptocurrency world. Nakamoto’s wallets hold around one million Bitcoin, worth an estimated $62.4 billion. If those coins were to be moved, it could significantly affect Bitcoin’s price.

Additionally, knowing Nakamoto’s true identity could influence how governments and corporations view Bitcoin, possibly impacting its further adoption.
