Telegram’s New Feature “Gifts”, Soon Can Be Converted to NFT

Telegram has launched a new feature called “Gifts,” where users can send animated images as virtual presents. These gifts can be displayed on a user’s profile or exchanged for Stars, the in-app currency. What’s special about this feature is that the virtual gifts can later be turned into digital assets.

Pavel Durov, Telegram’s CEO, announced that users will soon be able to convert limited-edition gifts into NFTs using the TON blockchain. This update is expected to roll out later this year, marking a big step in bringing blockchain technology into Telegram.

Since its release on October 5, the “Gifts” feature has become popular due to its collectibility and potential for users to make money. People can buy, sell, and trade gifts, giving more value to Telegram’s economy and allowing creators to earn Stars.

Although the NFT conversion feature isn’t live yet, it will soon allow users to turn rare gifts into NFTs. These NFTs can then be traded or auctioned outside the app, making them more valuable, especially if they are limited edition.

Even though the NFT market has slowed down since 2021, Telegram’s use of NFTs could help revive interest. By combining the TON blockchain with digital collectibles, Telegram is positioning itself as a leader in blockchain-powered social platforms.

For you who want to try this “gifts” feature, please open the user’s profile and tap ⋮ / ⋯ then “Send a Gift” → choose the message or emoji that you want to send.
